Top Ten Tuesday: Things Fantasy Books Have Made Me Want To Learn Or Do

Happy Tuesday and welcome back to Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.  This week's theme is Things Books Have Made Me Want To Do Or Learn About After Reading Them.  This week I'm narrowing that down to the fantasy genre.  I'm not going to name specific books in this post, since these should feel familiar to the genre.  Here we go, in no particular order:

Horse riding

Improving my archery skills

Fencing

Dancing at a formal ball

Map making

Tracking

The medicinal properties of plants

Falconry, or training a messenger bird

Master of disguise, or becoming a spy

And, of course, MAGIC

So, what do you think of this week's list?  Would you like to learn any of these skills?

  1. These are all great! Love the archery one, and medicinal properties of plants- I always thought herbalism and all that kinda stuff would be so cool. Athelas could be so useful... :)

  2. Yes yes yes! TO Magic, Becoming a spy and fencing! You even have a gif of the Princess Bride which is what started my love of wanting to fence! Oh Dread Pirate Roberts <333

    Great list, Lauren!

  3. Great list! I love the fencing and wish I had thought of that! The Princess Bride is one of my favourites! Dancing at a formal ball would be amazing too. I only I could actually dance XD.

    1. I used to take dance lessons when I was younger, but nothing to prepare me for a formal ball I expect!

  4. I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH PRETTY MUCH EVERYTHING ON YOUR LIST.

Fencing, and archery, are two sports I really want to try out, and mapmaking (Harry Potter style, of course) seems like such a useful skill.

Also, learning magic would be brilliant too :P

  5. Yes, and we get to do all these things, happily, be it only in the pages of a book!

  8. Great skills to acquire... Some of them are at least manageable. Would also love to dance at a formal ball (in a beautiful, puffy cupcake like dress) AND the art of map making. YES! I get lost even WITH the gps. Here's my TTT: http://marelithalkink.blogspot.co.za/2016/07/top-ten-tuesday-to-do-or-not-to-do.html

  10. Always with the magic. Every single time I read or watch fantasy-related things, haha.

Though ever since my fascination with Robin Hood, archery skills are way up on my "things I want to learn because of books" priority list.

  11. Yes, wouldn't it be awesome to do Magic and learn archery, too. I love your list. I look forward to being your August comment partner!

  13. Love all of these! I've never thought about map making, but I think it would definitely be a useful skill. Great list, Lauren!

  14. I don't think I would ever want to ride any type of animal. It always reminds me of the time Paris Hilton got bucked off of a horse on Simple Life...Twas funny, I laughed, and that is why I will never get on one. Karma is a bitch and I don't go time for that! ;)
